Abstract: Network coding is a popular coding technique for thedata packets at the intermediate nodes in the wirelessmultihop network that can increase the throughput per-formance. In this paper, we present the advantages ofapplying network coding at a 3-node chain topology toreduce the energy consumption for transmitting the datapackets. We also applies the 2-hop Path Selection Proto-col (2PSP) that allows an intermediate node to relay thedata packets to obtain the higher transmission rate [1] toincrease the throughput and save more energy. The goalof this paper is to investigate the energy consumption ofthe network coding aware medium access control (MAC)protocol, i.e., carrier sense multiple access with collisionavoidance (CSMA/CA) and 2PSP.
